OVERVIEW:
The Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) is the on-line access to the production payroll data. This system, which is maintained by the Office of the President, contains payroll,
personnel, benefits, time reporting (OPTRS), and paycheck information. Departments are currently
accessing their employee records using both inquiry and entry/update screens.
An overview of PPS is available for downloading here.
Data from the production Payroll/Personnel System is extracted to create the local PPS Data Warehouse. This extracted data is the basis for the PPS Decision Support system.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Access to the PPS system is granted to those personnel who require the data for the performance of their
assigned duties. To access PPS, you must first complete the PPS application, receive approval and
participate in training sessions (mandatory for the entry/update part of the system). A PPS access
application form can be obtained from the
PPS Website or
by contacting the PPS Coordinator.
Please mail the completed application to the PPS Coordinator, c/o Payroll Division, USB, 1141 Research Park Dr, Room 227. Applications are reviewed by a security committee comprised of members of several offices: Accounting, Payroll, Personnel, Office of the Provost, and Internal Audit. Applicants will be informed of their access approval and notified by letter via campus mail
TRAINING:
Information on PPS training can be obtained at the Staff
Development and Professional Services (SDPS) web site.
ACCESS:
The access to PPS is by the 6-digit Home Department number or by the college (group of departments).
Additional special variations of access have been created for viewing only by student employees or by
personnel program such as only academics. The campus PPS Security Committee views applications
for access and coordinates with the PPS Coordinator, who sets up the userids with staff at Office of
the President. The PPS Data Warehouse and PPS Decision Support systems mimic this same security
access.
HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
You will need a PC or a Macintosh computer and connectivity (telnet3270) secure software. In order to
print forms from PPS you will need to identify your networked or dedicated printer to the Office of
the President's server. The connectivity is available to the campus departments from the
IET-Desktop Enterprise Solution web site.
